A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season present a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing meditation skills to not arguing with relatives. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items emerged during the festive period, and if you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a positive development. But, the key visual for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
